How Does An Ionic Air Purifier Work?

There are a number of technologies that have been developed to clean air. One of the techniques is based on the concept that the dust and the smoke particles that are in the air are all charged. By suitably charging an electrode, you can get these particles attracted to a plate. Or you have also have charged particles generated and floated out which would neutralize the charged particles in the air and make them settle down. Most of the ionic air purifiers work either way. They will have both units fitted inside and ensure that they are effective in removing the particles from the air.

There will be a charged electrode inside the ionic air purifier. Not just one but many; at least two which will have opposite charges in them. The charged particles in the air, depending upon the charge on them will get attracted either to the negative electrode or to the positive electrode. In either case, the particle is removed from the air. This way, you will find that the units are able to remove continuously smoke particles, particularly cigarette residues in the air. It can also sense the presence of other larger dust particles like pollens.

In the normal implementation of the ionic air purifier you will also find another variation. This will make the particles charged in the air by applying appropriate voltage levels. The dust and the particles in the air get charged over the plates that would make them do so. Once charged the particles are easy to isolate with the electrodes that are present in the device. This makes the ionic air purifier one of the easiest and the effective units for air purification. In addition to this, during the process of making the particles charged, the unit also produces a certain amount of ozone. It may not be in large quantities but at the same time, to a reasonable extent. This should be enough to ensure that the room it is occupying is substantially cleaner and also produces healthier ozone for your family.

However, there is also counter research into the product. According to them, ozone is not a healthy by product. Ozone at the top of the atmosphere does not allow ultra violet rays to come down to the earth. But at the lower levels this is the major cause for producing smog and other unhealthy conditions. Inside a room this could be pretty dangerous according to a Professor from the University of California, Irvine. As a matter of fact, health standards mention about the levels of Ozone that should be present in the air and it cannot be exceeded. The ionic air purifier machines do create levels in Ozone that could exceed the healthy levels specified. So when you are buying you should ensure that you are not picking up some thing that has a high ozone emission levels. Otherwise, the ionic air purifiers are one of the best forms of air purifiers in town.
